Last Thursday I went along to Holiday Inn Winchester to visit The newly opened bar and restaurant Odyssey. This holiday inn is located just outside of the city centre and just off the m3 so in easy reach from Southampton airport. The hotel is also just beside the science museum.
I really like that they opened a nicer restaurant in a holiday inn because you just normally expect the bar food type generic food a hotel would supply.
We were greeted by a lovely team who sat us by the windrow and a view of the open kitchen. Always love to see the heart of the operation.
The menus is very varied which is good as it gives more choice to everyone. I was surprised to see that they even had burgers from the local butchers Uptons of Basset , Southampton. As a chain it’s nice to see them supporting local businesses.
I picked the salt and pepper squid which came with a mango salsa & it went a step into fine dining with the popping juice balls! What a surprise element!
For mains I had a steak which came cooked just the way I asked for it. Again the meat came from a local source.
Although I was full there’s always space to squish in a dessert! I went for the chocolate salted caramel dessert but I was tempted by the specials board which comes with flavours of the day.
The chocolate was really rich and indulgent a little bit too salty on the caramel for me but delicious!
Overall I was very pleasantly surprised with the new Bar and pizzeria concept. They’ve done a great job making the place family friendly yet have a spark of fine dining introduced.
I would visit again most certainly especially with the new spa they’re building!
